ABOUT TOUR DE VILLE - Tour de Ville is an annual, festive event centered on a leisurely bike ride around Historic Downtown Huntsville. The ride begins and ends at S.R. Butler Green located at Campus No. 805 on Clinton Avenue. Riders will enjoy several noteworthy “rest stops” along the route and learn interesting nuggets about Huntsville and it's rich history. The post-ride celebration will feature DJ Lashay B with food, drinks, and local craft beer available at Straight to Ale and other Campus No. 805 businesses. Our stops this year will be at the following noteworthy and historical sites: Church of the Nativity, Goldsmith Schiffman Field, Veterans Memorial Park, Seminole Boys & Girls Club. Bring your bikes, helmets, friends, and the entire family and have fun riding downtown, learning about Huntsville, and helping a worthy cause!
DON'T HAVE A BIKE? - Thanks to Downtown Huntsville Inc., Tandem Mobility, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, the newly relaunched bike share program will provide several adult bikes that will be available on site at the Butler Green station for free use during Tour de Ville 2020. Watch our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/TourDeVilleHSV for more info!
OUR CAUSE - Money raised from the event will provide needed funds to support kids and programs at the Boys and Girls Clubs of North Alabama, Williams Unit. Your registration fee is tax deductible, and these funds allow us to fulfill our mission: to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us the most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. The ride also promotes The Boys & Girls Club’s Healthy Lifestyles programs.
CYCLEBIKE SHOW - We are EXCITED to partner with The Great CycleBike Show of North Alabama this year to cultivate a fun atmosphere for biking and emerging biking enthusiasts. The Show will begin at noon, soon after Tour de Ville riders return to S.R. Butler Green, and will offer bike contests that you can enter ($10 to enter, monies going to the Singing River Trail Project)! Bike contest categories will include: vintage classics, custom builds, functionally specific models, and electric bikes. There will also be a new bike showcase. Make plans to stay and enjoy these awesome post-ride activities!
WEATHER - The ride will go on rain or shine. In case of severe weather the start time will be delayed. If severe weather persists, the ride may be cancelled and your tax deductible registration will remain a donation to the B&G Club. Therefore, there will be no refunds of donation/registration fees.
RIDER SAFETY: Although the Tour de Ville routing will take full advantage of bike lanes, bikeways, quiet neighborhood streets, and a low-traffic period, there will be exposure to automotive traffic along public roads. Safety Riders from the local cycling community will guide the group along the route and will attempt to keep the group organized. However, given the potential exposure to automotive traffic, the following will apply:
- Only children ages 8 and up are allowed to participate on the ride. (and no training wheels)
- A parent or legal guardian must accompany riders ages 8 to 13.
- All riders will be required to sign a Liability Waiver at the registration table on ride day prior to the ride. A Parent or Legal Guardian of all children 17 and under will be required to sign a Liability Waiver for their children.
- Helmets are mandatory for all children under the age of 16 and highly recommended for all riders.
COVID-19 PROVISIONS: The Tour de Ville committee is committed to providing a safe, healthy environment for our riders and attendees! We will offer hand sanitizer and masks at the registration table.
